Sonorus Introduces AUDI/O Modular/8

High Resolution Mastering Quality Modular Converter System

September 24, 1999

Sonorus, Inc. today announced the release of the Modular/8 the latest product in their AUDI/O series. This unit is a high quality, professional modular audio interface for those demanding the highest possible audio quality and is the first product resulting from Sonorus' strategic alliance with Swiss company Merging Technologies (makers of the PyramixTM editing system). "Modular/8 is the ultimate conversion system," says President Marc Lindahl. "I'm also excited about working with the Merging team and look forward to collaborating with them on future projects."

The Modular/8 is a 19" 2U rack mount unit housing eight channels configurable with any combination of 24 bit/48k ADC & DAC modules, 24 bit/96k ADC & DAC modules, and 48k or 96k AES/EBU digital in/out modules. ADAT lightpipe in/out is also included to connect the Modular/8 to the award winning STUDI/O® digital audio interface, including support for 96kHz sample rates via the S/MUXTM protocol. The Modular/8 can be remotely controlled by STUDI/O or can be used as a stand-alone unit.

Other features include video/wordclock in/out/loop, S/PDIF I/O, and an AES/EBU reference input usable when the Modular/8 is placed into external AES/EBU synchronization mode. You can also use this input to dictate your sample frequency for real-time sample rate conversion as well as the wordclock input.

The extended modularity of the Modular/8 offers an affordable ultra-high end solution for DVD mastering, broadcasters, recording studios and audio post-production houses. AUDI/O Modular/8 has a rugged internal universal-voltage power supply, and is fully CE compliant. All module audio connections are made using high quality balanced XLR type connectors and the front panel has a clear and easy to use interface. Standard configurations include eight channels of 24 bit/96kHz bi-directional conversion, and two channels of 24 bit/96kHz bi-directional conversion. The unit can also be ordered with any combination of digital and analog channels.

The Modular/8 is Sonorus' first product release in conjunction with Merging Technologies. Further products of this joint venture will be announced soon.
