Fender recently appointed Richard McDonald as Honorary Dean of Fender University. McDonald began his music career as an aspiring student of Fender at age 14 and later went on to become a professional musician for nearly a decade before joining Fender Musical Instruments in 1993. He currently serves as senior vice president of global marketing for the company.

"The legacy of Fender is so much greater than any single artist, recording, person, place or thing. When that undeniable power is harnessed into a hands-on experience that allows musicians to connect the rich history of Fender with all of the excitement of the present and future, amazing things will happen," said McDonald. "We are delighted to be able to open our doors to a few eager students who will be offered the rare ability to graduate to the highest levels of the spirit of rock 'n' roll."
