A potentially rewarding project for anyone with shop tools and an enthusiasm for guitar making, acoustic guitar kits from Stewart-MacDonald are all handmade in the USA. Available in Dreadnought style or the smaller Triple-O body, the kits offer the choice of traditional dovetail neck joints or bolt-on necks.

Features include 2-way adjustable truss rod, slotted ebony fingerboard, precision machined neck, a joined/profiled solid spruce top, joined/profiled solid rosewood or mahogany back, plus solid sides already bent to shape. Other features are a genuine bone nut and saddle, all necessary bindings, pre-shaped and sanded soundboard and back braces, along with detailed blueprints and the company's own step by step video, Building An Acoustic Guitar. Machine heads and strings are not included.

Pricing on both kits is $340 for Mahogany and $390 for Indian Rosewood.
