Ashdown Introduces The Fallen Angel DSP Twin-Channel Guitar Amps
May 31, 2006
Advertisement Ashdown's new Fallen Angel DSP twin channel guitar amps combine real tube tone, stunning on-board digital effects and versatile, 4-way footswitching — all at highly competitive prices. The 'All Tube' range consists of a 60-Watt head, 40-Watt 1x12 combo and 60-Watt 2x12 combo. Features and functionality are mirrored in a 'Tube Pre' range, which uses a tube-emulating solid-state power section to achieve even lower price points, and comprises of a 100-Watt head, 50-Watt 1x12 combo and 100-Watt 2x12 combo. A pair of flat and angle-fronted 4x12 cabinets are suitable for use with both amp heads. All amp heads and combos in both the Fallen Angel DSP 'All Tube' and 'Tube Pre' ranges feature the same, comprehensive array of versatile facilities. Both channels have controls for Gain, Treble, Middle, Bass and Volume, while the high-gain Channel 2 adds a Boost switch for soloing. A 16-way rotary switch selects the 16 internal DSP Effects including Choruses, Flangers and Vibratos, with a separate level control for the independent digital reverb. Unrivalled performance control is provided by dual Master Volumes which, like the channel selection, boost and effects, can be controlled by the 4-way footswitch which includes LED status indication and ships as standard. External Effects Send and Return sockets can be found on the rear panel, along with a Return Level control. A line level Recording Output is also located on the rear panel and includes built-in speaker emulation. Power and Standby switches are located on the front panel, alongside the classic illuminated Ashdown Output Power Level meter. Tube circuitry delivers powerful, harmonically rich overdrives with a fat, articulate bottom-end for bone crunching power chords, and soaring, saturated solo voicings for lead guitar. And although the Fallen Angel DSPs are unashamedly designed to rock, they're also capable of an impressively wide range of clean and crunch tones. Commenting on the launch of the Fallen Angel DSPs, Ashdown mainman Mark Gooday said, "For too long now, guitarists on a budget have had to compromise between tone and facilities. That's why we set out to build a range of affordable tube amps that start off by getting the tone right, then pile on the features like built in DSP effects, 4-way performance footswitching and on-board speaker emulation for the recording output."
