Aviom Unveils 6416M Mic Input Module With Remote Control Options
March 14, 2008
Advertisement Aviom is introducing the latest addition to its innovative Pro64® Series of audio distribution products, the 6416m Mic Input Module, at NAB 2008 (Booth N8736). In tandem with this debut are its companion products, the RCI Remote Control Interface and the MCS Mic Control Surface. The industry has been eagerly anticipating Aviom's latest additions to its Pro64 Series product line, and the 6416m delivers with 16 state-of-the-art remote-controllable mic-level inputs to a Pro64 audio network. Each channel on the 6416m has a continuously variable gain setting, multi-segment signal level LEDs and individual channel on/off switches. The 6416m supports all valid Pro64 sample rates, from 44.1/48kHz± to 192kHz±. Because the system does not rely on sample rate converters users are guaranteed pristine, low latency distribution of the digital signal regardless of the sample rate of incoming audio. The 6416m Mic Input Module, and its companion products, all target the broadcast, production, live performance and post-production markets. According to Ray Legnini, Aviom's product research and development manager, "Our design team has put in countless hours to make the 6416m the best sounding remote-controlled mic preamp currently available anywhere. When you consider the power and versatility that the Pro64 network adds to the mix, this product is an extraordinary value. The MCS is designed to make remote control of the networked mic pres simple and intuitive. This suite of products delivers outstanding fidelity, coupled with the flexibility and ease of use Aviom is known for." The 6416m can be remote controlled by adding the RCI Remote Control Interface and MCS Mic Control Surface. The 1U RCI provides a network access point and monitor station and accepts the MCS Mic Control Surface, which is used to select and edit any active mic preamp channel anywhere in the network. Up to 64 channels of mic pres can be controlled remotely from a single MCS, or the Control Group function on the 6416m and RCI can be used to divide control among up to four different sets of simultaneous users and control points. The 3U-high 6416m Mic Input Module is compatible with all Aviom Pro64 digital audio network products and can be connected to analog or digital output modules, or to the 6416Y2 Yamaha® console card in any combination. MH10 and MH10f Merger Hubs can be added for bidirectional parallel connections on Cat-5 or single- or multi-mode fiber optics. Virtual Data Cable™ (VDC) connectivity for GPIO, MIDI, and RS-232 is also included on the rear panel of the 6416m Mic input Module, allowing users to configure and transmit up to 14 channels of non-audio data throughout the Pro64 A-Net network, without compromising audio bandwidth. Other features include +48V phantom power, low-cut filter, phase invert, and pad per channel. Each 6416m can save 16 mic preamp presets that store all input channel parameters for easy recall. Mic inputs use balanced XLR connectors; the passive split/auxiliary input connects via DB25 multipins. A-Net audio network connections feature locking EtherCon RJ45 connectors.
