Music Education Comes to Palm OS

Today miniMusic(tm) will release BugBand(tm), an educational game for learning to read and play music. The correct notes must be played before the bugs crawl across the musical staff on the Palm(tm) handheld computer screen. Notes can be played on either an on-screen piano keyboard, or guitar fretboard. Last year miniMusic revolutionized the industry with its first portable music notation software, NotePad, followed by the powerful and interactive BeatPad. Now miniMusic offers the first of their educational series. BugBand is animated and musical. It is an educational program for the Palm OS(r) platform that appeals to both children and adults. Anyone who wants to learn to read music will benefit from this software, and have fun doing it. Users can be drilled on both the treble and bass clef, sharp and flat notes, and piano and guitar. Notes can even be written in with Palm's Graffiti(r) alphabet to teach the letter names of notes (and teaches you to write Graffiti characters fast!). "Handheld computers have been reserved for the business world long enough," says Chad Mealey, president of miniMusic. "BugBand is reaching new users for Palm handhelds: children, students, and musicians. Education should be a part of everyone's lives; now you can take a powerful educational tool, put it in your pocket, and have it with you everywhere you go. Learning music will become more accessible for everybody." The new software will run on any Palm Powered(tm) handheld running Palm OS 2.0 or higher, including handheld computers from Palm, Handspring, IBM, TRG, Qualcomm, and Sony. BugBand can play notes on the built-in speaker, or any attached electronic music instrument using the industry standard MIDI protocol. Pricing, Availability, Distribution, and Support The miniMusic BugBand 1.0 software becomes available for $11.95 U.S. on September 27th, 2000. At this time the software will only be available on the internet, but will soon be available through other channels, including retail.
