PRESS RELEASE
FAR to Demo XMG2.D Active Monitors at AES 2008
September 30, 2008
Advertisement FAR will be demonstrating the XMG2.D digitally controlled active monitors at the AES Convention in San Francisco on Oct. 3-5 in Booth # 839 at the Moscone Center. The XMG2.D is the largest monitor built by ATD2 with a frequency response from 15 Hz to 35 kHz. Its two woofers are capable of 10 mm excursion and the low frequency is designed (in a sealed box) down to 10Hz. The monitor frame is made of steel, reinforced by 42mm MDF and a special coating is applied on the frame and in the box in order to damp all vibrations. The front panel is covered by heavy foam to absorb the vibrations coming from the front panel. The mid-range has a Helmholtz resonator built in to avoid all the resonances generated by the cabinet and above 900 Hz ATD2's high efficiency ribbon driver is used. The cross-over frequencies have been calculated to ensure the stereo imaging is stable and wide and the internal electronics are of the highest quality and the DSP is very powerful. Linear power supplies and high efficiency guaranties the lowest possible heat dissipation to provide the high current required by the ultra high quality analogue class D amplifiers 2 x 800W for the woofers, 1 x 200W for the mid-range and 1 x 200 W for the tweeter. All the drivers are time aligned by the DSP to obtain a perfect impulse response and digital processing helps to finalize a perfect match between the monitors and the mixing room.
