First iPhone App That Alters Pitch And Tempo In Realtime Released

Sonic Shift 1.0, the first iPhone application that can independently alter pitch and tempo of any recorded audio, has just been released. Based on a set of fast DSP algorithms, Sonic Shift can record a piece of audio and then play it back while the user adjusts the tempo and pitch in real time.

"As a musician, I'm continually learning new riffs to hone my guitar chops", says the developer, Salil Apte. "With Sonic Shift, I can record a riff or solo I want to learn, slow down the audio and not worry about the pitch of the audio changing." Because Sonic Shift also offers the ability to alter the pitch of audio without affecting the tempo, singers and other musicians alike can hear a melody line transposed to another key. And with no limit to the amount of audio you can record, Sonic Shift can be used to record just about anything such as music lessons and lectures.
