Museum Honors Ravi Shankar at 6th Annual "Evening of Note" Gala

May 14, 2008

On Saturday, June 14, 2008, the Museum of Making Music presents its 6th annual "Evening of Note" fundraiser. This year's event honors local music legend Ravi Shankar at The Crossings at Carlsbad, located at 5800 The Crossings Drive. Tickets are $100 per person (or $1200 for a table of 12). Proceeds from the evening support the museum's ongoing educational outreach programs, workshops, performances and exhibitions.

The evening opens with a reception featuring performances by Kamau Kenyatta and the San Diego Youth Symphony & Conservatory String Quartet. Following the reception, the gala program — emceed by Marty Levin, NBC 7/39 News Anchor — includes special performances by the Patnaik Sisters Indian Dance Troupe, Peter Sprague & Fred Benedetti, youth cello prodigy Nathan Chan and a special commemorative presentation for the honoree, Ravi Shankar. The evening includes a silent and live auction benefiting the Museum's educational programs and activities. Auction items include a Pearl River 50th Anniversary Commemorative Butterfly Piano, a hearty firehouse dinner for four prepared by members of the Carlsbad Fire Department, a two-week getaway to Maui and a baton autographed by world renowned conductor Maestro Zubin Mehta.

The legendary sitarist and composer is India's most esteemed musical ambassador and a singular phenomenon in the classical music worlds of East and West. As a performer, composer, teacher and writer, he has done more for Indian music than any other musician and has influenced American music beyond generations and genres. In the period of the awakening of a younger generation in United States in the mid-1960s, Ravi's three memorable concerts — Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock and Concert for Bangladesh — influenced musicians worldwide. His devotees span the globe and include many successful artists and composers. For tickets and information, please call (760) 438-5996, ext. 212
