Museum of Making Music Explores the Magic & Mystery of Slide Guitar

September 25, 2008

From October 11, 2008 to March 31, 2009, the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California presents, "The Magic & Mystery of Slide Guitar," an exhibition that is the first of its kind to capture the essence and emotion evoked by slide guitar and slide technique. Nearly 70 rare and historic instruments will be displayed at the museum during the exhibition, including: lap steel guitars, pedal steel guitars, Hawaiian lap steel guitars, and several instruments from across the globe that represent the many cultures of slide technique.

In addition, some of today's most prolific ambassadors of slide technique will perform a series of concerts at the museum throughout the duration of the exhibition. These artists include multi-instrumentalist David Lindley (Oct. 11), delta blues guitarist Sonny Landreth (Oct. 11), Indian Chitravina guru N. Ravikiran (Nov. 1), English folk guitarist Martin Simpson (Nov. 19), Hawaiian and world fusion guitarist Bob Brozman (Jan. 10, 2009), country steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar (Feb. 7, 2009), blues lap steel guitarist Freddie Roulette appearing with free improviser Henry Kaiser and friends (Mar. 7, 2009).

Anyone who has ever enjoyed the scorching sound of the blues, the soulful tones of Western Swing or the sweet melodies of Hawaiian guitar are encouraged to discover "The Magic and Mystery of Slide Guitar" a one-of-a-kind exhibition that will be on display for a limited time exclusively at the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California.
