Museum Of Making Music To Host Summer Film Series

June 19, 2006

The Museum of Making Music (5790 Armada Drive in Carlsbad, CA) is hosting a series of music-themed films and documentaries this summer. The public is invited to join guest facilitator and musician Tony Vick (a.k.a. DJ Vick) for an indepth look at a variety of music films. Suggested donation for each film event is $5.

Saturday, June 24 @ 2 PM
"The Monterey Pop Festival: Criterion Collection"
Tony Vick gives us a look at the classic rock documentary "The Complete Monterey Pop Festival: Criterion Collection." The film documents perhaps one of the most pivotal events of the 60s. This expanded edition features many great artists and the cinematography of D.A. Pennebraker.

Saturday, July 15 @ 2 PM
"Detaching the World" & "Touch the Sound"
Vick facilitates two classical music documentaries: "Detaching the World," which portrays Gustav Mahler with music by Uri Cain and "Touch the Sound," that explores the music and life of Evelyn Glennie.

Saturday, July 29 @ 2 PM
"Stop Making Sense"
Tony Vick takes us through this concert performance film by Talking Head and film maker Jonathan Demme. The film captures the elaborate staging and live performance of a modern rock band.

Saturday, August 12 @ 2 PM
"Festival in the Desert"
A look at the documentary of the Saharan Music Festival in northern Mali. The film features Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and a wonderful array of North African music from the world's most remote music festival.

Saturday, August 26 @ 2 PM
"Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould"
Thirty-two short films (reflecting the thirty-two part structure of Bach's 'Goldberg Variations' that Gould made famous) give us an insight into aspects of the Canadian pianist Glenn Gould's life and musical career.
