Ploytec Introduces The Latenc-o-meter Audio Latency Measuring Tool

May 07, 2007

Sited south of Baden, Germany, Ploytec offers a unique tool for measuring latency in audio systems called Latenc-o-meter.

Once it is powered up, this handy device generates a click signal sent from its analog output to the target audio hardware's input and back into the Latenc-o-meter.

The signal runs through the entire audio system and is returned to the Ploytec Latenc-o-meter. The device samples the signal at a rate of 100 kHz to measures its latency, that is, the signal delay. Its display then indicates value in remarkably precise increments ranging from 0.01 to 999.99 milliseconds.

A readily replaceable nine-volt block battery powers the measuring tool.

The Latenc-o-meter serves diverse purposes from detecting the latency of studio setups' digital audio equipment to measuring the acoustics of venues and voice over IP (VoIP). Ploytec uses the Latenc-o-meter to develop external USB2 audio cards and drivers.

Priced at 333.00 euros, the Ploytec Latenc-o-meter is now available from the Ploytec website.
