M-Audio Announces Pulsar Microphone

October 28, 2004

The latest in their popular line of studio microphones, M-Audio's Pulsar is a medium-capsule professional cardioid condenser microphone designed primarily for recording and miking instruments.

Pulsar's design is optimized for recording acoustic instruments such as guitars, piano, strings, brass, and woodwinds. It's also useful for percussion and drum overheads, as well as capturing room ambience for electric guitar and drum tracks.

Pulsar's 6-micron evaporated gold diaphragm is mounted in a solid brass capsule and body. Transformerless Class A FET electronics round the design.

The Pulsar is equipped with a 3-pin XLR connector and requires +48 volt phantom power. Frequency response is 20Hz-20kHz, with a maximum SPL of 134dB (for 0.5% THD). Sensitivity is 13.8 mV/Pa (-37 dBV re 1V/Pa). Output impedance is 200 and recommended load impedance is 1,000 . Equivalent Noise Level is just 17dB (A-weighted). The Pulsar is extremely compact at 5.2" (22 mm) long and .87" (132 mm) in diameter, weighing in at a mere 4 oz (115g).

The M-Audio Pulsar is currently shipping at an MSRP of $129.95 USD.
