Randall Adding Direct Outs to Cabinets

November 05, 2003

(Click for a close-up)

Designed by Randall and amp guru Bruce Egnater, the new "Mic Eliminator" will be featured in all XL/XLT and Custom MTS cabinets beginning January 2004. You will then be able to simply connect a single (mono) or dual (stereo) XLR cable(s) directly to the mixing console from the rear of your cabinet.

Randall has designed their circuitry to closely match the frequency curve of a mic'd version of the cabinet. Rather than a generic cabinet simulator, you will get something engineered specifically to sound like that particular cabinet.

Three different voicing options - "Dark", "Normal", and "Bright" - are offered, based on the characteristics of different microphones used by Randall in their testing, providing some additional tonal options.

R412 "Mic Eliminator" Jack plate Features and Specifications:

  • 4/16 ohm mono inputs
  • 8 ohm stereo L/R inputs
  • Stereo/mono slide switch
  • Single mono or Dual Stereo Left/Right XLR filtered direct outputs
  • Dual voicing options. Bright, Normal, and Dark.
  • Ground lift switch, to eliminate potential ground loops.
