Previously available only for the high-end SCOPE /SP platform, the STS-5000 sampler is now also available as a plug-in for the smaller CreamWare DSP systems.

Admittedly, the term "sampler" is an understatement when used to refer to the STS-5000 with its manifold and extraordinary features. The flagship of the STS sampler series offers not only the usual set of features found in a professional studio sampler. In addition, this instrument permits spectacular realtime manipulations of the sound:

Realtime time-stretching and pitch-shifting

With the STS-5000 you can alter the audio material's pitch and playback speed independently and flexibly - in realtime. Play samples faster or slower, without changing their pitch. Or change the pitch while maintaining the original playback speed and tonal character. As a result, you can for example dispense with tedious and time-consuming multisampling, transpose vocal lines or even create an entire choir from a single vocal sample.

Formant Shifting

The STS-5000 can automatically correct the formants when it shifts the pitch - but it also lets you shift formants manually. By doing this you could have a female voice emerge out of a male vocal sample (or vice versa). With other sound material, formant shifting produces other quite different effects. From subtle nuances to wild effects, a broad range of possibilities opens up.

The Robot Mode

In this mode, all pitch information is first removed from the sample. The result is a completely monotonic sound. However, you can now provide new pitch information via MIDI which the sampler interpolates into the prior pitchless sample. This too happens in realtime and can also be applied to multiple voices. In addition to all this, the STS-5000 features an extensive filter section with 25 different filter types. And of course the sampler also boasts all the functionality of the smaller DSP sampler STS-4000.

Overview of the STS-5000 features:

  • Stereo sampling with resampling function
  • 16/24/32-bit sampling at 44.1/48/96 kHz
