PRESS RELEASE
Sher Music Co. Releases Three New Books For 2008
January 07, 2008
Advertisement "The Real Easy Book, Vol.3: A Short History Of Jazz (C Version)" — Like the earlier Real Easy Books, "Vol.3: A Short History Of Jazz" includes easy, but classic, jazz tunes on one page, and all the things a band director might have to write out for their students on each facing page. Vol. 3 is unique, however, because the tune selection includes 5-10 songs from each historical era of jazz–from Dixieland to Swing to Bebop to Afro-Cuban Jazz, and more. In addition, Vol.3 has an entertaining and informative history text introducing each section, including the musical innovations that happened in each era. All in all, a perfect teaching tool for any jazz educator, as well as just a great fake book! C version available now, Bb, Eb and bass clef version will be available in the spring of 2008. At over 200 pages, it is a bargain for only $25. (Sold in USA only.) "Walking Bassics" by Ed Fuqua. An in-depth method book on how to create authentic-sounding walking bass lines, designed for the beginning bassist. Includes many exercises to get any aspiring bass player up and walking on their own, as well as complete transcriptions of every bass note played by swinging NY bassist Ed Fuqua on the accompanying play-along CD. The CD features simple blues and standard tunes played by a top-notch NY rhythm section. Endorsed by Eddie Gomez, Jimmy Haslip, John Goldsby, etc. Price is $22 for book and CD. "Afro-Caribbean Grooves For Drumset" by Jean-Philippe Fanfant. The only book published on how to play over 100 grooves from a dozen Caribbean nations, arranged for drumset. The author is the drummer on over 300 CDs, including the great Latin jazz band Sakesho. The book has been given rave reviews by Peter Erskine, Horacio Hernandez, Berklee professor Mark Walker, and others. Includes an enhanced CD that has both audio and visual examples of the author demonstrating how to play various Caribbean rhythms. Price is $25 for book and audio/visual CD. These new additions to Sher Music's jazz and Latin music catalog are available at better music stores world-wide.
