Metric Halo has released SpectraFoo Rad317, an update to their audio analysis tool. The new version contains two primary enhancements, addressing both compatibility and performance. The TDM version of SpectraFoo now fully supports RTAS, and all versions of SpectraFoo now support the K-System metering standard as defined by Bob Katz. Users can now install or update MLM, SpectraFoo, and SpectraFoo Complete for use with Pro Tools 5.1. This allows them to take advantage of RTAS instantiation in Pro Tools 5.1 to use SpectraFoo metering without using any DSP. Pro Tools users will also benefit from the update because SpectraFoo is now compatible with Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools Free. The update also includes full support for the K-System metering standard. The standard is the "first integrated approach to monitoring, leveling practices, metering and metadata," according to Mr. Katz, the developer of the standard. The K-System standardizes mixing and mastering processes by aligning monitor calibrations with metering calibrations, making subjective loudness reflect different program material and listening environments. More information about the K-System, and many other topics related to audio, is available at www.digido.com. The upgrade is being made freely available to any and all registered users of MLM, SpectraFoo, and SpectraFoo Complete, just as all previous updates to the SpectraFoo product line have been. SpectraFoo and MLM users have received tremendous benefit from the history of unpaid updates, as most of the updates have been feature additions instead of problem fixes.
