Steve McKinley Electronics Announces the McKinley Mods "Screamer" Ibanez TS9 Pedal

September 30, 2008

The Screamer is one of Steve McKinley Electronics' most popular mods as it takes the legendary TS9 and turns it into the "Hammer of the Gods." It does this by making a number of component part upgrades and circuit changes.

First off, it corrects the bass frequency roll off found in its original stock form. With the bass increased it makes for a full frequency response for a warmer, sweeter sound.

Next, the circuit is upgraded by replacing key electrolytic capacitors and carbon composition resistors with high quality metal film ones to produce a high fidelity sound with greater clarity and presence.

Also the background noise and 3rd order harmonics are greatly reduced so you can turn up the gain all the way and she's quiet when you're not playing.

And the crown jewel is how the overdrive range is expanded. A lot of people have told me they wanted to have either more gain available or the ability for it to clean up more when the drive was set low and the Screamer does both. It gives the best of both worlds - cleaner when turned down and more gain and drive when turned up and all the while keeping the signature TS9 Tube Screamer sound.

New ones are ready to ship or send yours in to be modded. The Screamer can be powered by batteries or an external 9 Volt DC power supply.

Price: $159. Available starting in October 2008.
