Metasonix Unleashes Some Agony
April 16, 2004

The latest design from Metasonix defies categorization, but it's goal is simple - to destroy your sound. The all-analog TX-1 Agonizer features a vacuum tube that originally found it's place in 1960's televisions, and has no real place in the audio world. The innards of this beast also feature a neon lamp in the feedback loop plus some other special items that cause all kinds of instability. The TX-1 sometimes oscillates at ultrasonic frequencies. There's also a pentode preamp in the front end for plenty of gain. The TX-1 is the same size as the other TM modules from Metasonix and accepts both mounting kits. It draws a lot of power: 12 volts AC at 1.5 amps. No 9 Volt battery option here. The TX-1 Agonizer is handmade and will be available later this month. Retail price: $499 US.
