Universal Audio, a manufacturer of high-quality vintage audio hardware and DSP Powered Plug-Ins™ for digital audio workstations, today announced that the company is to receive a Technical GRAMMY® Award on February 7th at The Recording Academy®'s Special Merit Awards Ceremony for Universal Audio's technical contributions to the Recording Industry. The Technical GRAMMY Award recipients are determined by vote of The Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing Advisory Council and Chapter Committees, and ratification by the Academy Trustees. The award is presented to individuals and companies who have made contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field. This is the second Technical GRAMMY Award associated with Universal Audio as Bill Putnam Sr., the original founder of the company, was personally awarded a Technical GRAMMY Award in 2000 for his pioneering achievements, including the first use of artificial reverberation.

Universal Audio will receive the Technical GRAMMY Award at a special invitation-only ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 7. A formal acknowledgment will be made during the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network.

"Everyone at Universal Audio is thrilled and very honored by this award. We would like to accept this Technical GRAMMY Award on behalf of our customers, many of whom are GRAMMY winners and nominees themselves." commented Bill Putnam Jr. "Universal Audio was started by my dad to make music sound better. To have UA honored with a Technical GRAMMY Award is a wonderful vote of confidence that UA is carrying on my father's tradition and legacy."

"Universal Audio is one of today's most respected audio companies, creating some of the highest quality recording tools on the market," commented Maureen Droney, Sr. Executive Director of The Recording Academy Producers and Engineers Wing. "We congratulate them on this prestigious achievement."
