University of Portsmouth Announces New Masters Course in Creative and Computational Sound

July 20, 2007

The University of Portsmouth is offering a new Masters course in Creative and Computational Sound.

Starting in October, the course is designed for students who are interested in exploring computer composition, sound processing and synthesis beyond simple sequencing packages. Students will apply theory and produce practical projects that explore artistic and commercial aims.

Resourced by a comprehensive Mac lab, Protools HD and surround studios, the course culminates in a major project that demonstrates creative, academic and technical skills developed on the course.

The MSc in Creative & Computational Sound is ideal for Music Technology and Production graduates, alternatively, the course team encourages applications from graduates with a strong, demonstrable interest in sound from science, engineering or computing courses.

Successful graduates may find employment in the entertainment industry (games, multimedia and leisure industries, mobile technologies), education (community installations, exhibition sound, postgraduate research, teaching) media (music, film, radio, video, internet, promotions and marketing,) or business (development of audio systems, software and interfaces, acoustic research).

The course is available with both full and part time options and has a limited number of places available for this October.
